Distance Graduate Application (M.A. in Latin or Master's of Latin)Questions? Send a question to distance@classics.ufl.edu. [The distance office is closed from May 15-August 18.] NEW ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS: Applying to the Distance MA or ML Program in Classics Requirements & PrerequisitesTwo prerequisites are required: an undergraduate degree (B.A. or B.S.) and an ability to read Latin (3 years of college level Latin). It is not required that your degree be in Latin or Classics, but it is essential that you have the ability to read Latin authors in the original. If you need to review Latin grammar and syntax before beginning graduate level work, one can explore local options. If local options are not available, the University of Georgia and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill both offer excellent correspondence courses in beginning and intermediate Latin. LatinTeach also keeps a list of distance programs in Latin. In order to apply to our M.A. or M.L. program, you will need to supply official transcripts, GRE scores (the gradaute school requires that your combined verbal and math scores total at least 1000, although they will consider special circumstances on a case by case basis), three letters of recommendation, a brief statement of purpose, application forms. And, you will need to supply much of this information TWICE, once to Graduate Admissions, and once to the department. Why? It is better not to question bureaucracy; rather, simply supply the offerings the filing gods crave by their fixed feast deadlines, and you will prosper! Follow the Instructions for Domestic Graduate Applications by Post Please note: Distance Graduate Application materials should be sent to the attention of Dr. Yates (Distance Graduate Coordinator).
