The indigenous people of southwest Florida lived in a rich coastal environment providing easily available food and other resources. A complex culture known as the Calusa was introduced to us via Spanish historical accounts, and archaeological research has expanded our understanding of how these people lived within their environment and the rich culture that they evolved. After a description and update on recent research findings, Dr. Marquardt will lead a special tour of the Hall of South Florida People and Environments.
